Paper Disk turns a small file into an encrypted, printable A4 PDF made of QR codes. Print and store the pages, then scan them later to restore the original file.

Made for Small Important Files

The standalone Paper Disk app creates archives from files up to 128 KB. It can restore compatible Paper Disk PD1 archives up to the complete 1.44 MB format, including compatible Paper Disks created by RetroNotes.

How It Works

  1. Choose a file up to 128 KB.
  2. Paper Disk encrypts the file content with AES-256-GCM through Apple CryptoKit.
  3. Export the generated A4 PDF. Each page contains 9 QR codes.
  4. Print and store every required page.
  5. When needed, scan all 9 QR codes on each page.
  6. After every required page is complete, Paper Disk verifies, decrypts, and restores the original file.

Paper Recovery

A complete Paper Disk is required for recovery. Paper Disk does not use a password. Anyone who obtains all required pages may be able to restore the file, so printed pages should be stored appropriately.

Compatibility

Paper Disk uses the compatible PD1 format. To create a complete 1.44 MB Paper Disk, use RetroNotes. The standalone app remains limited to 128 KB when creating a new archive.

Privacy by Design

File creation and recovery are performed on your device. File content is encrypted before it is encoded into QR codes. File names, Paper Disk IDs, page numbers, and page information may remain visible on the printed archive.
